As we throw open our doors and pour out onto our streets up and down the country to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s historical Platinum Jubilee, we urge you to try and think a little more sustainably.

There’s often a lot of unnecessary waste associated with parties, so we wanted to share some of our tips on how to host a more sustainable Jubilee celebration this weekend - whether you’re hosting an intimate barbecue or going all-out with the neighbours for a street party!

Clean the patio with vinegar

If you’re hosting a get together this weekend, no doubt you’re keen for your garden to look its best. For a natural way to freshen up your patio tiles, pour a mix of white vinegar and water and leave to work for around 30 minutes before scrubbing with a broom.

Get baking

Rather than buying pre-made goodies (that often come wrapped in plastic), try baking your own treats. We’ve been known to whip up scones in 15 minutes when hungry mouths come round for tea…!

Make your own decorations

Use old shirts, tea towels or school uniforms to craft your own bunting - you’ll be able to reuse it again and again! Try to swerve the balloons as these can often end up littering the environment and potentially even harming wildlife.

BYOP

Bring your own plate! Whether you’re heading out to a street party or hosting a celebration, instead of buying single-use plastic or paper plates, take your own crockery (although perhaps avoid your finest china..!). For children, opt for reusable plastic plates or bamboo alternatives.

Clean up your outdoor furniture

Rather than buying a plastic tablecloth, spruce up your outdoor furniture with Purdy & Figg’s Counter Clean - the natural cleaning spray won’t leave any nasty chemicals behind and it can be used on any surface (wood/wicker, iron, aluminium, plastic - you name it!).
