How scent has the power to give you that festive feeling 

Have you ever caught the scent of an old flame’s fragrance and felt a sudden surge of emotion? If so, you’re not alone - and there’s a very good, scientific reason for it. 

Smells are processed by something called the olfactory bulb, which is directly connected to the part of the brain in charge of emotion. That means our relationship with scent is strongly shaped by our memories - which is why the smell of a Christmas tree can instantly give us that festive feeling, and scents from our childhood can transport us back to the past.

It has valuable psychological functions, like connecting us socially, giving our lives meaning, and strengthening our sense of self-continuity (the feeling of being the same person throughout our lives, even with all the changes that go on around us). Orange & Clove, our member exclusive Christmas scent, is inspired by the smell of orange and vanilla cake baking in the oven, and traditional Christmas pomanders. We hope cleaning with them fills you with a warm, anticipatory glow, and brings back precious memories of time spent with loved ones.
