1. Doorstep Deep Clean

With all those people coming in and out, its the perfect time to give your front door a little TLC. The doorstep is a place that often goes neglected, but giving it a little spruce every once in a while is a great way to impress your guests before they even step into your home! We recommend grabbing an old cleaning brush, and making a simple solution of warm water and dish soap to tackle through the winter grime. Check out our TikTok Video for a tutorial on how you can achieve a sparkling doorstep this Winter:

2. Floors that gleam

Make your floors sparkle this Christmas with our simple, but effective tips! If you haven’t already, we recommend investing in a steam mop for this task. Simply fill up the cartridge with water and add a few drops of your favourite Purdy & Figg Eco Concentrate. Not only will your floors be gleaming, but your entire home will smell incredible!

If you don’t own a stream mop, you can still achieve beautiful floors with a mop and bucket. Simply fill up your mop bucket with a  3/4 of warm water, and add your desired amount of Eco Concentrate. We recommend using the whole 20ml for the best results and a lasting scent.

@purdyandfigg We’re using the Purdy and Figg eco-concentrates which have natural cleaning properties in too! 🥰 #floorcleaning #carpetcleaning #woodflooring #cleaninghacks #learnedontiktok #lifehacks #cleanwithme #cleaningtiktok #homehacks #thingstiktokmademedo ♬ original sound - Tik Toker

3. Christmas Home Scent Hack

If you’ve ever dreamed of bottling up the scent of Christmas then look no further, for this Christmas stovetop potpourri will have your home smelling like you’ve stepped into a festive fantasy. This simmer pot is a blend of citrus and warm spices that will instantly make you and your guests feel cozy and warm. Simmer all the ingredients on your stove for two hours for the best results.

All you need is a combination of some (or all) of the below:

  • Orange Slices
  • Cranberries
  • Rosemary
  • Star of Anise
  • Cinnamon
  • Cloves
  • All spice
  • P&F Frankincense & Myrrh concentrate (available as part of the Christmas Variety Kit)

4. Natural dust-repellent hack

The last thing we want to be doing amidst the festivities is worrying about having a dusty home, so here’s how you can ditch the duster and still have a sparkling home for Christmas...

You will need:

  • 2 tbs of Olive Oil/ Pure Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of White Vinegar
  • A few drops of Citrus Essential Oil (for scent)

Citrus oil and white vinegar have incredible natural properties to help cut though dirt, whilst the Olive Oil creates a natural barrier to prevent dust from settling on household surfaces (it’s also a great natural wood moisturiser!)

Simply combine in an empty bottle and get spraying on all of those pesky dust-prone areas. We recommend focusing on: door frames, light fittings, slatted blinds, cupboards tops and skirting boards! Wipe with a microfibre cloth when done.

5. Christmas stain remover!

Pre-empt those inevitable spillages and pre-make a natural stain removal solution - ready to use on those pesky red wine marks!

Pop to the chemist  before Christmas and buy a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide. This is a brilliant stain remover (for white fabrics only!).  With stains, it's best to act quickly and treat it before laundering (as this will set in the stain!). Firstly, flush the affected area with sparkling water. Next, pour a small amount of hydrogen peroxide onto the stain and allow to soak in for 10 minutes before washing. N.B. hydrogen peroxide is a very mild form of bleach, it is best to test on on inconspicuous spot first.

Ingredients for a slightly more sophisticated stain remover (white fabrics only):
  • 1 tablespoon of dish soap
  • 2 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 cups of cool water
For coloured fabrics: same recipe but no hydrogen peroxide.
For upholstered furniture: same recipe but no hydrogen peroxide and less water.
For carpet: Same recipe as upholstered furniture.

6. The power of lemon and bicarb

Did you know that you only need two simple ingredients to cut through dirt and grime? The acidity of lemons combined with the natural cleaning properties of Bicarbonate of Soda make the perfect cleaning component! We find that this method works especially great on cleaning ovens, hob rings and pans.

Cut a lemon in half, then make a cleaning paste with a few tablespoons of Bicarb & Water. Use the lemon half to gently disrepute the paste on the affected area, and watch the dirt and grime disappear!

7. Shine up your silverware

Get Christmas dinner ready with this wonderfully easy silverware polishing hack. As we lead up to the big day, cleaning our cutlery may seem like the last thing on our minds. But did you know adding a ball of tinfoil to your dishwasher can effortlessly sparkle up your silverware? Check out our TikTok video to learn how:

8. Oven clean

If you start the season with a clean oven, you'll be in a FAR better position come January after countless pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and puddings have been baked.

The best way to clean an oven is to allow whatever product you're using to really soak in (ideally overnight). We like to spray white vinegar all over the inside of the oven and soak some paper towels to stick to the sides, preventing the liquid from dripping off. Once soaked for a few hours, you should be able to easily wipe down grease and grime from inside the oven. You can also do this method with a soda crystal and water solution in replacement of vinegar.
