We have conducted an independent survey into the impact of cleaning on happiness ahead of Blue Monday - dubbed ‘the most depressing day of the year’.
There has long been an association between a clean home and better mental health, but Purdy & Figg has found that the act of cleaning can also have a direct impact on our happiness. Our survey suggests that over 9 in 10 adults agree that a clean home makes them happy, with women in particular feeling happier with a clean home (95%).
According to the survey conducted by Opinium, a clean kitchen is the room that makes people most happy - 68% enjoy the process of cleaning this room and 92% say having a clean kitchen makes them happy. This increases in those under the age of 34, 71% of whom commented that cleaning their kitchen makes them happy.
People from Brighton seem to find the most joy in having a clean home, with 100% of respondents saying a clean home makes them happy and 98% enjoying a clean kitchen.
The research poll also found that Londoners are happier cleaning their bathroom than the rest of the country, with some 72% claiming to feel happy while doing so, whereas Welsh respondents prefer to clean their kitchens (75%).
