If you’re investigating the various natural cleaning products that you can use in and around your home, there is one that is perhaps more versatile than the rest. White vinegar. It can be used by itself as well as combined with various other ingredients for a great result. Today, we’ll show you how to use it for various areas in your home so you can ditch the chemicals sooner rather than later!
Your dishwasher might be one of the most neglected places in your home, but that’s understandable. At the end of the day, you put dirty dishes in and clean ones come out. It makes sense to think that it would be clean all the time, but if you neglect it too much, you may start to smell a funky stink that you can’t shift.
After you’ve dismantled your dishwasher by removing the arms and have given everything the once over with white vinegar, it’s time to get to the deep clean. Pop a dishwasher safe bowl upright on the top rack and fill it with the vinegar. You want to run the hottest and longest cycle. If your dishwasher allows you to pause the cycle halfway through, do it and wait 20 minutes to allow the steam to remove and lingering scents. After the cycle is done, remove the bowl and pop it on another cooling cycle, this will remove any dirt left behind.
Limescale is one of the most difficult issues to overcome in the bathroom. It occurs when water is continually running over an area, so you can imagine how easily the build-up occurs on things like taps and shower heads. Not to worry though, our good friend white vinegar is perfect for this job.
The acetic acid in the vinegar is powerful yet gentle, meaning it can remove even the toughest limescale. There are a few different ways you can use it. For items like shower heads, grab a bowl, fill it with vinegar and allow it to soak for a couple of hours. When it comes to your taps, you can soak a cloth in vinegar and use some elbow grease to fight the limescale. Although it’s not possible to remove limescale build-up permanently, keeping up with vinegar wipes can reduce it significantly.
Just like shower heads and taps, kettles are notoriously known for limescale build-up. Making it the perfect opportunity to bring out the vinegar. Now, we know what you're thinking, it's one thing having a vinegar doused tap, but having a vinegar tasting cup of tea is not ideal.
Fill your kettle evenly with one part water and one part vinegar and douse a cleaning cloth in vinegar too. Before you boil it, trap the cloth in the lid. This cloth will help loosen any pieces of dirt lingering in the lid but it also works as a great tool afterwards for anything left over in the kettle. After it has boiled, leave the lid closed and the kettle on the base.
This will allow the steam to get into all the smaller areas. Once the water has cooled, use the cloth and some elbow grease to dislodge any remaining limescale. Then boil the kettle with tap water to rid yourself of any vinegar taste. Leave the lid off to air out overnight and job done!

Grab your stained oven tray and pop it on the side. Fill it half with white vinegar and half with boiling water. Leave it to sit for an hour or so until the water is cool to touch.
Once it's cooled down, put it in your sink so you can scrub it with a non-scratch scouring pad. If you’re having trouble removing the last few bits, empty half the liquid from the tray and sprinkle some baking soda on it. This will give the final lift on the dirt and return your oven tray back to its former glory.
