Bathroom Cleaning Hacks

Our cleaning hacks to keep your Bathroom looking tip-top

It’s that one room that requires a lot of elbow grease, plenty of products, and time. The bathroom. It’s not a job you can easily put off, let’s face it, a couple of days later and you’re going to want to do a quick clean again.

But when it comes to the deep cleaning of the bathroom, you want to make sure you get it right. Over 2 million bacteria per square inch live on your bathroom floor. So, make sure that after you’ve cleaned the bathroom, you have a hand sanitiser that can clean 99.99% of the bacteria on your hands, like Purdy & Figg.

If you’re ready, we are. Let’s get into some bathroom cleaning hacks that’ll leave the space spotless but also give you a bit more time to enjoy the rest of your day!

The issue of hair in the drain

It doesn’t matter what type of hair you have, or length, we all lose hair when we’re in the shower. It’s a natural process and every few months it seems to get worse. We naturally shed our hair every 3 months or so, which is why our drains are regularly clogged with hair.

Cleaning out the drains is possibly one of the most disgusting jobs in the bathroom, and difficult. Usually, it involves buying some extra product to unblock the drain by breaking down the hair.

But what if we told you that you didn’t need to pour harsh chemicals into your drain, or wait hours for it to work. You could just, pop a little device at the bottom of your drain to catch all the hair.

The flower styled device sits at the bottom of your shower with the beaded chain going down the drain. Over time, hair falls into the drain and entangles itself around the device. When you’re cleaning it’s a case of lifting out the hair and disposing of it. Quick and simple and you can reuse the device for months!

Using natural ingredients to clean the toilet

We’re not big fans of using bleach. It’s a harsh chemical that we’d rather keep out of our waterways, plus it comes in a plastic bottle that is incredibly difficult to reuse - even if you’re just considering cutting it up. That being said, cleaning the toilet bowl can be a hard job without something tough enough to remove stains. As always, nature has provided a solution.

Natural products for cleaning your toilet include bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar. Mix them together in equal parts, then apply using a toilet brush. Leave it for 15 minutes or so to work its magic then scrub using your toilet brush. Voila!

Food for cleaning

Being big fans of natural products, we love using lemon rinds in our cleaning. Yes, they make for a great scent in the bathroom, but did you know the rind of a lemon has natural shining properties? That’s right.

After we’ve done the deep clean on our bathroom, we go round all the chrome fittings and buff them out using lemon rind. The natural oils in the citrus fruit bring out a great shine that leaves the perfect finishing touch!

Speaking of food… we also love to use a grapefruit to clean the bathtub! If your tub is looking a bit grimy, cut a grapefruit in half. Sprinkle the fleshy parts of both sides with some salt, quickly wet the bathtub by sprinkling some water around, then get scrubbing with the fruit! Rinse off the residue and you’ll have a nice clean bathroom with some beautifully smelling results.

You see, cleaning bathrooms doesn’t have to be hours of hard work, harsh chemicals, and plastic bottles galore. You can use natural products, food, and a few gadgets to keep on top of one of the dirtiest places in your home.
