When it comes to spring cleaning, the kitchen is one of the most important areas to focus on. It’s often the heart of the home and is where we cook and eat our food. But don't worry, with these top natural spring cleaning tips for the kitchen, you'll be able to tackle the job in no time and get your kitchen feeling clean, organised, and ready for all your culinary adventures!

1. Clean your fridge and pantry

Start by removing everything from your fridge and pantry and cleaning the shelves and drawers with warm soapy water or Counter Clean. Discard or compost any expired or stale food, and donate any unopened non-perishables you won’t use to a local food bank. Wipe down each item before putting it back to ensure it’s clean and organised.

2. Deep clean your oven and hob

Remove the burners from your stovetop and trays from the oven and soak them in warm soapy water. Clean the oven with a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water - for extra dirty ovens, dip a cut lemon into the bicarb to create a naturally abraisive degreaser. Scrub the grates and burners and wipe down the hob with Counter Clean.

3. Degrease your cooker hood

The cooker hood and extractor fans can accumulate a lot of grease and grime over time, so it’s important to give it a deep clean. Remove the filters and soak them in warm soapy water or run them through a dishwasher cycle. Clean the hood with a mixture of vinegar and water or a natural cleaner like Counter Clean. Wipe it down thoroughly and replace the filters.

4. Clean your microwave

Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and a splash of vinegar or some halved lemons, then microwave it for five minutes. The steam will loosen any dirt and grime, making it easy to wipe away with a cloth. Finish by wiping the interior with a natural cleaner.

5. Scrub your sink

Use a natural abrasive like bicarbonate of soda to clean your sink. To freshen up the drain, pour a cup of vinegar down the drain and let it sit for 30 minutes before flushing with boiling hot water.

6. Declutter your worktops

Don’t forget to dust and declutter your kitchen as well. Wipe down all surfaces, including the cabinets and countertops. Keeping your countertops clear of clutter will make it easier to clean down regularly, now’s the time to donate any kitchen tools or appliances that you no longer use!

7. Clean up your cleaning cupboard

Are you feeling burdened by bottles? Perhaps it’s time to sort through your cleaning cupboard. Many of us tend to keep cleaning products on hand just in case, however in reality we only need a couple of staple products for most household chores. Consolidate your products and give away anything you no longer use. This reset is also a good opportunity to invest in refillable cleaning products that are convenient and sustainable.

8. Descale your appliances

Don’t forget to look after the appliances that clean for you! Regular descaling will not only help to make them run more efficiently but it will also improve their lifespan - a win-win! Use 1 cup of either white vinegar or soda crystals every 4-6 weeks into your washing machine or dishwasher and run on a descale programme. For smaller appliances like kettles and coffee machines just use a couple of spoonfuls.

So there you have it! Spring cleaning your kitchen might seem like a daunting task, but by using natural cleaning ingredients and following the tips we’ve covered, you can give your kitchen a deep clean without resorting to harsh chemicals. Not only will your kitchen look and feel fresh, but you'll also have peace of mind knowing that your family can cook and eat in a clean and healthy environment.
