Summer is the perfect time to rejuvenate your living space and create a clean, fresh environment indoors. As the temperature rises and the days grow longer, it's an ideal opportunity to clear out clutter, deep clean neglected areas, and give your home a renewed sense of vitality. In this blog post, we'll explore essential summer cleaning tips to help you revitalise the interior of your home.

Declutter and Donate:

Start your summer cleaning by decluttering your home. Go through closets, cabinets, and storage spaces to identify items you no longer need or use. Sort them into categories: keep, donate, or discard. Consider donating used clothes, toys, books, and household items that you no longer use to local charities or friends. Removing unnecessary clutter creates a more open and inviting atmosphere in your home.

Deep Clean Your Carpets and Rugs:

Summer is the perfect time to deep clean your carpets and rugs. Remove furniture from the area and thoroughly vacuum to remove loose dirt and debris. Take rugs outside to air them out and give them a good bash to remove embedded dust particles. You can even use some gentle wool cleaner combined with water for an extra deep clean - make sure you allow it to fully dry before laying it back on the floor.

Refresh Your Bedding:

With warmer temperatures, it's time to switch to lighter bedding (if you haven't already!). Launder your blankets, and duvet covers following manufacturer instructions. Consider rotating or flipping your mattress to ensure even wear. Take advantage of the sunny weather by hanging your duvet outside to air and freshen. Additionally, consider washing or replacing your pillows to maintain a clean and hygienic sleep environment - as a general rule, pillows should be replaced every few years! Dust and Clean Neglected Areas:

During your summer cleaning, pay attention to often-neglected areas that accumulate dust and grime. Dust ceiling fans, light fixtures, and air vents using a microfibre cloth or a long-handled duster. Wipe down skirting boards, door frames, and window sills with a damp cloth. Don't forget to clean frequently touched surfaces, such as light switches, doorknobs, and remote controls, to maintain a healthy home.

We like using our Limited Edition Geranium & Ylang Ylang Counter Clean to bring the cheerful scent of summer into the home.

Tackle the Windows:

Summer brings abundant natural light, so it's essential to clean your windows to maximise brightness. Start by vacuuming or dusting window sills and frames. Mix a solution of equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray it on the windows. Wipe them clean with a microfibre cloth or squeegee. For stubborn marks, use a mixture of water and mild dish soap or our bestselling Bathroom Bliss. Finally, dry the windows with a lint-free cloth for streak-free shine.

Clean and Organise the Pantry:

With summer comes a shift in eating habits and the arrival of fresh produce. Take the opportunity to clean and organise your pantry. Discard expired items and donate unopened non-perishable goods you no longer need. Wipe down shelves, jars, and containers before restocking. Consider using transparent storage containers to keep your pantry items visible and accessible. This will help you stay organised and avoid food waste.

Freshen Up Air Circulation:

Improve the air quality in your home by maximising air circulation. Open windows and doors to let fresh air in and allow stale air to escape. Use fans strategically to create a cross-breeze and enhance ventilation. Consider investing in indoor plants that naturally purify the air, such as snake plants or peace lilies.

As the summer season arrives, embrace the opportunity to clear out clutter, deep clean neglected areas and refresh your home's interior!
