Survey finds that 51% of Britons will not stop using Hand Sanitiser

by on March 15, 2021 11:09

A recently conducted independent survey of 2,000 adults living in the UK found that 51% will not stop using hand sanitiser, demonstrating a behavioural shift following the heightened awareness around hand hygiene.

Other respondents to the survey said they would stop using hand sanitiser once it was no longer a requirement for entering shops/businesses (14%), at the end of 2021 (5%) and once they're vaccinated (2%).

Surprisingly, the survey also found that  8% of people claimed never to use hand sanitiser, with this figure rising to 11% for people based in London.

4% have previously used sanitiser but have already stopped using it. Female respondents were the most likely to continue using hand sanitiser (57%), whilst of their male counterparts 45% will not stop using hand sanitiser. Interestingly, there was no obvious discrepancy between age groups, suggesting that both younger and older members of the population place similar importance on hand hygiene.

For the majority, hand sanitiser was previously a rarely used product reserved for camping trips or festivals, however, since the pandemic there has been a hyper awareness around hand hygiene that has had a significant impact on the market. A recent market report by ResearchAndMarkets.com found that as a population, there is now an increased inclination toward health and wellness meaning consumers are now adopting precautionary measures to prevent contracting communicable diseases. Hand sanitiser is crucial in preventing the spread and transmission of infections and has become the norm among the expanding health-conscious customer base.

It's clear that hand sanitiser is here to stay for the majority of the population and at Purdy & Figg, we are passionate about producing the most effective yet kind-to-hands products on the market. Containing 70% Pharmaceutical grade alcohol, Purdy & Figg’s hand sanitiser spray exceeds the minimum requirement of 60% alcohol to produce a spray that kills 99.9% of bacteria whilst pure essential oils leave hands smelling beautiful.

Purdy & Figg’s latest product development; the Hygienic Hand Balm, is a first-of-its-kind product that utilises innovative technology to combine the nourishing qualities of a hand balm with the antibacterial properties of a sanitiser. Purdy & Figg’s Founder Charlotte Figg, said,

“Our research highlights the fact that hand sanitiser will continue to be used across the UK for many years to come.

At Purdy & Figg, we are passionate about wellbeing and the environment, and our mission is to create wonderful products made from natural ingredients which protect our customers, all scented with specially blended pure essential oils to provide further protection and an uplifting scent.

It has been shown that dry and cracked hands are more likely to attract dirt and bacteria so it’s even more important to use hand sanitiser that is kind and nourishing to hands. Our Hygienic Hand Balm provides the perfect solution thanks to the revolutionary encapsulated shea butter that moisturises and smoothes hands.”
