Create a cleaner, brighter start for the new year!
December is well and truly over *breathes sigh of relief*. Although we love the joy and that comes along with the festive season, countless hours spent slaving away at the stove and the dreaded piles of dirty dishes will not be missed. It’s safe to say that you and your kitchen have endured some tough times over the past month, now is the perfect time to hit refresh on the heart of the home and have a kitchen reset.
Here are 6 tips for tackling the kitchen for when cleaning seems like an impossible task.
1) Top to Bottom
This tip might seem like an obvious one, but always start from the top and work your way down when cleaning any room. Tackle the tops of cupboards where grease and grime can often build up (these are easily forgotten!), cooker hoods and light fittings first, then work your way down to countertops and eventually the floor and skirting boards.
2) Make it fun
Get a good playlist blasting or stick on a podcast to keep you entertained whilst you undertake the task—do anything you like to make it slightly more enjoyable! You can even ask your partner or family to help you. Encourage the little ones to get involved in the cleaning fun with the promise of a treat when everything is done.
3) Clean smarter not harder
Cleaning the kitchen can seem like a never-ending task, so it’s important to work smart. Don’t waste time cleaning the hob if you’re planning on cooking an extra messy dinner that evening. Or spend an hour mopping the floors if your dog is going on a muddy walk later that day! Be strategic and you’ll save yourself more time in the long run.
It’s also handy to have a go-to cleaning product that can used on multiple surfaces to save you money and time. Check out our new Fir & Bergamot Counter Clean for a sustainable and freshly scented cleaner that can do it all!

4) Clean out your pantry
It’s easy to accumulate an excess of food items in our kitchen cupboards-- especially during the festive period! These items either go to waste or sit in our cupboards for months taking up valuable space. Spend 30 minutes organising your pantry into a pile of items that can be kept, thrown away or passed on to your local foodbank.
5) Unclog your sink
There’s nothing worse than a clogged sink! Especially when it starts producing foul smells that linger in your home. The good news is you can easily rectify this by pouring a cup of soda crystals down the sink followed by boiling water. To impress your guests, add a few drops of our Oh! de Loo into the sink basin for the ultimate fresh smelling kitchen.

6) Freshen up your fridge
The kitchen fridge is another culprit for producing foul odours. We recommend giving your fridge a good deep clean every few months to avoid this occurrence. Start by taking everything out and get rid of those expired products that have been hiding at the back! Give the insides a good wipe with Counter Clean and a microfibre cloth then replace the items.
TIP: Leave a cup of bicarb or fresh coffee in your fridge to help neutralise any potent food odours.
