One of the things we’re asked most often here at Purdy & Figg is whether all-natural products can really be powerful enough to clean. It’s a fair question, especially since ‘natural’ is often associated with ‘gentle’. In reality, nature’s a mighty force that doesn’t need messing with to clean effectively. 

For those of you who prefer a technical approach, here’s the science behind the things we make (strap in). All our formulas are developed alongside our in-house PHD chemist, Dr Anna. She developed our eco-concentrates and knows a thing or two about the chemical effects of natural ingredients. Our Counter Clean concentrated refills contain powerful surfactants with hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails. The polar and nonpolar ends form micelles, which capture grease and grime to remove it from any surface. It’s also PH neutral, which makes it safe to use on almost any material. 

Bathroom Bliss, our multipurpose bathroom spray, contains naturally derived water softening agents and lactic acid, to give it the extra oomph needed to tackle limescale head-on. Lactic acid has natural descaling and antimicrobial properties which help to break down and actively remove the limescale and hard water deposits from surfaces, leaving them shiny and streak-free. Because of the slightly higher acidity levels, we don’t recommend using Bathroom Bliss on natural stone, wood or porcelain surfaces. 

After years of research and experimentation, a lot of help from Anna, and plenty of guidance from nature,  we’ve landed on all-natural cleaning formulas that really work. We’ll let you in on a little secret. Back when our founders were starting out, they happened upon some documents suggesting ad agencies encouraged a move away from natural products back in the 1970s because of a tallow shortage. Now, we’re making it our mission to convert the world back to the plant-based options that always worked, and remind them of nature’s innate cleaning power.
