Our Top Tips On How to Be Conscious Consumer

by on July 28, 2021 10:15

Conscious consumers are individuals who choose to make conscious decisions about what they are buying, where they are buying and who they are buying from.

In a nutshell, conscious consumers are people who look beyond the label, who want to know more about the company from which they are buying from.

In a 2020 global survey, 60% of people reported making more environmentally, friendly, sustainable or ethical purchases.

Check out our top tips on how we believe you can be more of a conscious consumer.

Top Tip 1 - Shop Ethically

Being a conscious consumer isn’t just about shopping sustainably, but shopping ethically too. Ethical shopping means buying products that are made without exploiting people, animals or the environment.

The amazing thing about ethical consumerism is that the more people shop ethically, not only does it support great companies, but makes other companies more obligated to take notice and address their supply chain practices.

Choose to buy companies who put the planet and people first!

Top Tip 2 - Invest but Buy Less.

Being a conscious consumer means that you can save a lot of money in the long term.

Some may say that buying sustainably can be expensive, however this is incorrect when compared to the money you will save in the long run.

Examples could include using cloth bags, reusable cotton pads, or reusable paper Towels.

Top Tip 3 - Buy Secondhand

Shopping secondhand means that you divert clothing and items from ending up in landfill, whilst also displacing the need for new clothing productions.

Especially when it comes to the fashion industry, clothing is great to buy second hand as the fashion industry emits more carbon than international flights and maritime shipping combined.

Plus you can buy lovely clothes for cheap!

Top Tip 4 - Repair Your Broken Things

Rather than buying new every time something breaks, rips or gets damaged why not try to repair it?

Similar to buying second hand, by repairing broken items you are displacing the need for the production of new items, preventing the waste of raw materials.

Top Tip 5 - Buying Earth Friendly Products

Try to buy from companies whose products are made with natural materials and ingredients.

Though consuming less is the aim, consuming smarter is also a way forward. There are a huge number of gifts and products on the market that are eco-friendly and sustainable.
